World Information: This is a general summary of where the majority of Final Fantasy XIV takes place. If wishing to read more about the universe as a whole, please let me know and I will do my best to find links for you!

Personal History: The Warrior of Light's story can be found, unfortunately in bits and chunks: A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker. Pahja's own personal history does not deviate from it beyond events pre-ARR. She was born in the Black Shroud as the middle child of a family of five, with one elder brother and three sisters. As a Keeper of the Moon, Pahja was raised without a father and in a medium sized extended family group -- again with no adult men to speak of, as is traditional amongst Keepers. It was a relatively happy life with few incidents of tragedy -- her tribe were primarily nomads keeping to the forest. Eventually Pahja grew restless for adventure and struck out for the city state of Gridania, thus beginning her journey to become the Warrior of Light.

Personality:
At first glance, Pahja Nyancoya hardly appears to be a woman who commands the respect of many, nor the sort of person you would want the weight of the world resting upon. She's cheerful, quick with a smile, mischievous, and always up to something. Responsibility seems to not bother her beyond the basics; more concerned with a quick laugh and a good time. And all of this is Pahja, make no mistake. Most times she wears her heart on her sleeve and her face -- she's honest and compassionate, seeing no reason to maliciously mislead those around her, friend and enemy alike.

And it's for the sake of kindness that she does, in fact, keep others out of her true thoughts and feelings when the topics are too weighty, too bitter and resigned. Most of those who know her well know the toll that being the world's only hope takes on her -- she's resigned to lose those who she cares about, that she will always have to put what she wants aside for the sake of the world, and that the world will always need something from her. But Pahja does her best to hide those particular thoughts and feelings, the resentment for people continually calling on her to fix their menial problems that they can't do themselves, her grief for the lives she couldn't save.

Luckily for her, her personality mostly keeps people from digging past that, into the darker conversations. No one would expect the woman who's willing to lick rocks to also accept that she may just have to die in order to save the world; she is tired, exhausted, ready to have a severe identity crisis but also totally down to eat worms for the greater good. And maybe just for kicks. Life is worth living to the fullest, even with the sorrow that comes with simply being alive. And for Pahja, those costs are an ever-present weight on her mind and her heart.

Keenly aware of the cost of being the Warrior of Light and knowing what she has to sacrifice makes Pahja deathly afraid of losing those close to her even as she accepts that they just might. Her happy upbringing and early adventuring meant that when things started to get serious she was utterly unprepared, and the early deaths of her friends left a mark. The responsibility that she seems to eschew is, in fact, the thing she cannot forget nor escape -- she just refuses to let it destroy her, basking in the enjoyment of the world around her and the people in it. Her easy smile and genuine joy at life inadvertently hides a woman who has gone through much, and came out the other side still standing.

Pahja's resilience and determination are her true defining characteristics. Every day she chooses to continue to put one foot in front of the other with a smile, and in doing so inspires others to do the same. She will see whatever task it is to its bitter end relentlessly and with courage, eventually fighting for the right of all existence to live.

Her courage, combat prowess, and genuine wonder and love for the world are what makes Pahja heroic, though she would rarely describe herself as such. For Pahja, she's just a woman who wanted to see the world and have a few adventures along the way -- the whole saving the world business was just something she fell into. But she's glad she did, happy even, because it means that she gets to protect those dear to her and ensure that there is a tomorrow.

Key themes: Sacrifice and the nature of the soul. Pahja knows that, as the Warrior of Light, her needs and wants and desires are secondary to what is demanded of her; her time before the events of the game were happy and ultimately uneventful -- the losses she experiences early on are extremely traumatizing; she heals from them by coming to accept that her feelings for others, what she wants, cannot interfere with her role as the Warrior of Light. At the same time it makes her absolutely terrified to lose the people that she cares for, which is unfortunate given the amount of times her friends have sought to die for her. Recent revelations about the immortality of the soul, and in particular the preincarnation of Pahja's own soul have her wondering about what defines her and what is the result of something that isn't her.

Main Motivation: To explore and experience all the world has to offer, and to protect it in turn. Pahja has a wander's heart and a soul of a traveler -- she became the Warrior of Light after beginning as an adventurer, and it's that role that she returns to when her work is done. There is nothing more exciting to her than seeing new things, meeting new people, and exploring the unknown and dangerous. Protecting it is only natural, the final evolution of her desire to experience all that her planet has to offer her -- she knows its value, its fragility, and she will do all that she can to save it in the face of overwhelming odds.

Skills: Pahja is a Red Mage, using White and Black magic together to both cast and use a rapier to slash her way to victory. She also has something called the Echo -- allowing her to occasionally and inconveniently see snippets of people's pasts (normally leaving her with a searing headache for a few seconds) as well as understanding every language spoken automatically.

She also has experience as a Bard, Reaper, Machinist, and Dark Knight.
